Billions of people live below the poverty line across the globe. They are struggling for basic needs like food, clothes, and shelter. In such a case, there is no scope of education to them. Read on to know about poverty on education in other ways.
Firstly, impoverished children can’t afford to study in good schools. They settle for something less and end up going to schools within their communities. Now, these kinds of schools have less or no opportunity. They barely have two or three educators who are not on their duty most of the time. This leads to the children losing interest in studies at a very young age. They discontinue going to public schools set up by the government.
Secondly, even if the children from economically poor backgrounds end up going to a good school, they are not taken seriously. Needless to say, they are not even given a chance to take up the opportunities that could change their life forever. They fall into the category of discarded students irrespective of their academic performance.
It impacts the students directly, they become less confident about poverty on education and stop hoping for a better future.
Lack of resources
The school environment plays a vital role in shaping up the minds of the children. A school equipped with better infrastructure and amenities is more likely to have a positive impact on the kids. Not all families can afford to send their children to a good school. Poor families tend to send their kids to a local school. With no proper resources like classrooms, benches, canteens, and teachers, the kids end up learning nothing at all.
Hindrances due to improper food intake
Poverty is a person’s worst enemy. Poor families find it difficult to afford a two times meal. So, they send their kids to schools without giving any food. As a result, the brain’s capacity of the student reduces and they find it hard to study.
The government or public body should do something In order to control this kind of behavior of parents towards their kids. They should take an initiative to educate the families who belong to low-income groups. Classes about nutrition, stress control, and parenting should be organized for free to direct them to the right path.
Poverty-stricken families have a rough time getting well along with each other at home. Domestic violence, bad-mouthing, and quarrels are prevalent in such families. While it’s okay to get exposed to such circumstances at times, coming home to this every day leaves a bad impression on the children. Instead of focusing on their education and future, kids get stressed about the well-being of their families.
After a certain point, they accept their fate and make no effort to improve themselves.
Impoverished children live in an environment that is not favorable to them. Not just in school but also at home. They are exposed to all the bad things in their surroundings. Being at school also does no good to them as it’s pretty much the same. It lowers their confidence and makes them less hopeful about life.
Poverty becomes a reason for the constant struggle of people in every aspect of life. The children who belong to poor families might have to stop going to school to support their families. They prefer going to work instead to earn a day’s meal. In a bid to make money, their education is hampered and also their growth.
If this continues, the number of people living in poverty will never go down. Poverty breeds more poverty on education as it continues to be for generations if not tackled early.
